Mark Zuckerberg announced that WhatsApp will roll out and introduce interlocking layers of protection through new privacy features. This feature is to give users more control over their conversations and adds a layer of protection when sending messages.
“Several new privacy features will be rolling out in WhatsApp: leaving groups without notifications, controlling who can see when you’re online, and blocking screenshots for single-view messages. We will continue to build new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as a face-to-face conversation,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The introduction of these new features is in line with WhatsApp’s latest privacy study that goes deeper into the role of privacy in meaningful conversations on the messaging app. The study found that about three in four people (72%) want to speak candidly and without filters — but nearly half (45%) will not engage in frank discussions unless they are able to do so in a safe and private space.
That’s why WhatsApp introduced a new layer of protection, which allows users to talk freely and privately, specifically designed to create a safe space for users:
Online Status
WhatsApp understands that being online doesn’t necessarily mean you’re willing to chat. The new setting allows users to control who can see their online status. This feature will be launched this month.
Screenshot Blocking for One View Messages
One View Messages are automatically protected from the screenshot feature, so users can share sensitive messages more conveniently. This feature is currently being tested and will be rolling out soon.
Leave Group Without Notification
Leave the group with comfort and more privacy. System notifications that a user has left the group can only be seen by group admins.
