Last month, news emerged that the upcoming Vivo X80 Pro will feature a Sony IMX8 series sensor for its main camera. This sensor model is rumored to be IMX866. Now, news has surfaced that Sony has another yet-to-be-announced camera sensor, which is likely to be the IMX989.
According to information from Weibo Digital Chat Station, Sony is rumored to have a 50 MP resolution sensor in the IMX9 series, which can be called IMX989. Reporting from Gizmochina (20/4), the information adds that this sensor is close to 1 inch in size.
The IMX9 series sensor is expected to debut first in the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra phone. So we can estimate that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is equipped with flagship photography capabilities housing the almost 1 inch IMX989 sensor.
So far, rumors about the Xiaomi 12 have stated that this phone will come with a 6.73-inch AMOLED E5 display as well as a 2K resolution. This screen is also informed that it supports LTPO 2.0 technology and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The camera configuration on the phone will consist of a 50 MP main sensor with OIS support, a second camera with an OIS-based 48 MP ultra-wide lens as well, and finally a 48 MP telephoto lens camera with hybrid zoom support up to 120x.
Inside, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and is backed by a 4,900 mAh battery and 120 W fast charging. The phone will also pack stereo speakers and be certified IP68 water and dust resistance. The operating system it uses is Android 12. This device is rumored to be launching around the end of the second quarter of this year.
