Zoom has launched the Instamic Pro Plus C, a compact 32-bit float audio recorder designed for creators and sound professionals seeking high-quality, distortion-free audio in a lightweight form. Measuring 1.5 x 1 x 0.5 inches (3.8 x 2.5 x 1.3 cm) and weighing just 18 grams, the device can be discreetly worn or mounted on vehicles. It has reportedly been used by the sound designer of Fortnite to capture authentic vehicle Foley sounds.
Available in mono and stereo versions, the Instamic Pro Plus C features MEMS microphones capable of recording across a 40 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range, with a maximum sound pressure level of 135 dB. Zoom said, “The Instamic Pro Plus C is designed to deliver professional-grade audio with minimal setup, ensuring clean, clip-free results even in demanding conditions.” Both versions record in 32-bit float, 96 kHz WAV format to 16 GB of internal storage.
The device supports timecode synchronization with clock accuracy of 2.5 ppm, making it suitable for professional film and video production. Users can wirelessly control up to ten units through the Instamic Remote app, adjusting power, equalization, and sync settings from a smartphone or tablet.
Built for rugged use, the recorder carries an IP67 rating, allowing it to be submerged up to one meter for 30 minutes. The built-in battery runs up to 4.5 hours and fully recharges in about 1.15 hours, according to the company.
With Bluetooth transmission and multiple mounting options, the Instamic Pro Plus C can also serve as a wireless microphone for smartphones or pair with GoPro, Garmin, and Insta360 action cameras. Zoom said the recorder offers “versatility, durability, and precision” aimed at modern content creators and field recordists.
