Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) inaugurated its “India Corner” on the fifth floor of the Rumah Ilmu Building, creating a dedicated space to strengthen academic and cultural ties with India.

The launch ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Nur Qudus, M.T., IPM, Vice Rector for Cooperation, Business, and International Affairs at UNNES, along with Mr. Bashir Ahmed, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India in Jakarta, and Mr. Ram Kumar, Counsellor (Education) and Acting Director of JNICC. Faculty leaders, library staff, and representatives from international collaboration task forces were also present.

“I hope that our faculty representatives can make the best use of this initiative and further develop collaborations with Indian institutions,” said Prof. Nur Qudus, stressing the corner’s role as a bridge for academic and cultural exchange.

The India Corner provides a range of resources, including insights into India’s history, arts, and education system, as well as updates on scholarships, exchange programs, and joint academic initiatives. The facility is designed to support students and faculty in exploring study opportunities, professional collaborations, and cross-cultural learning experiences with Indian institutions.

Mr. Bashir Ahmed highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative, saying it lays the groundwork for enhanced educational cooperation and cultural understanding between Indonesia and India. Programs such as fully funded scholarships, adjunct professorships, and student exchanges are expected to offer new pathways for international collaboration.

By creating the India Corner, UNNES reinforces its commitment to Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The initiative promotes inclusive access to international education and strengthens global partnerships, providing long-term benefits for the university’s academic community and fostering deeper intercultural engagement.
