Google is experimenting with an AI-driven Gemini side panel in Google Calendar, allowing users to manage their schedules through conversational interactions.

The feature, currently part of Google Workspace Labs’ early access testing, aims to simplify event management by enabling quick queries and actions.

    How It Works

Users can access the Gemini side panel by clicking the “Ask Gemini” icon in the top right corner of Google Calendar. The AI assistant provides suggested prompts, such as “Add a lunch event” or “Find the next meeting,” while also allowing users to input custom queries.

    For instance, users can ask:

    • “When is my next meeting with Emily?”
    • “How many meetings do I have on Monday?”
    • “Add a weekly workout every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 AM.”

A “More suggestions” option is also available for additional recommendations.

    Expanding AI Across Google Workspace

The Gemini side panel eliminates the need for manual event searches and scheduling by offering a more intuitive, conversation-based approach. Google Calendar is the latest Google Workspace app to integrate Gemini, following Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat.

It remains unclear when the AI-powered feature will be widely available beyond the early testing phase.
