Substack Expands Livestream Tools with AI-Powered Video Clips and Cross-Platform Integration

New features help publishers promote livestreams via highlight clips, auto-upload to YouTube Shorts, and guest invitations via email or SMS

Substack has introduced a suite of new tools designed to support creators in growing and promoting their livestream content, marking another step in the platform’s evolution beyond newsletters. The update, announced Wednesday, enhances Substack’s video offerings with a focus on automation and discoverability.

A key feature of the update is the ability for publishers to generate short clips from livestream recordings, which can be shared on Substack Notes. Substack will now provide real-time performance metrics for these clips, helping creators identify high-performing segments. When linked with a YouTube account, the two most engaging clips are automatically uploaded to YouTube Shorts, expanding their potential reach.

The feature is currently available on Substack’s iOS app, with Android support expected next week. Substack uses AI technology to generate the video highlights, reducing the workload for creators and optimizing content for distribution across platforms.

Substack has also added an automated promotional toolkit for scheduled livestreams. When a livestream is planned, Substack creates ready-to-share promotional assets for Notes, YouTube, and other social media platforms, streamlining the marketing process.

Another update, though more minor, allows creators to invite livestream guests via email or SMS. This provides a way for non-Substack users to join events, broadening the potential audience.

These new features follow Substack’s recent additions of audio-only livestreaming and a scrollable video feed, continuing its efforts to diversify beyond written content. Earlier this year, Substack extended its live video capabilities to all publishers, positioning itself more firmly in the creator economy’s video segment.
