Google LLC unveiled updates to its Pixel Buds line during its annual “Made by Google” hardware event, highlighting improvements to the more affordable A-series wireless earbuds as well as minor updates to the premium Pixel Buds 2 Pro.

The new Pixel Buds 2a, priced in the $130–$150 range, now feature active noise cancellation (ANC), a redesigned, lighter form factor, and a replaceable battery in the charging case. The earbuds also include the new Tensor A1 chip, which Google says will enhance audio quality and extend battery life to seven hours of playback with ANC enabled. The 2a earbuds will be available in two new colors, Iris and Hazel, and launch on October 9, with preorders already open.

In addition, the 2a buds integrate Google’s Gemini AI, allowing users to summon the voice assistant on Pixel phones for tasks such as summarizing messages. While ANC and AI features are increasingly standard in wireless earbuds, Google emphasized the combination of these capabilities with an affordable price point and improved longevity through the replaceable battery.

The Pixel Buds 2 Pro will also see updates, including a new Moonstone color option and a software update expected next month that will enhance several features. The Moonstone version of the 2 Pro is priced at $229 and will be available in stores starting August 28.

Google’s updates reflect a continued focus on improving functionality and battery life in both entry-level and premium earbuds, while leveraging AI integrations and design refinements to differentiate the products in a crowded wireless audio market.
