Sony Honda Mobility said its Afeela 1 electric vehicle will launch with PlayStation gaming capabilities for passengers, as carmakers look to turn vehicles into mobile entertainment hubs amid slowing growth in traditional console sales.
The Afeela 1 will feature a seat-mounted PlayStation Portal display integrated into the rear cabin, allowing passengers to stream games using Sony’s PS Remote Play service. The system connects to the vehicle’s audio setup, removing the need for headphones, and is designed to work over Wi-Fi or the car’s built-in 5G connectivity.

Sony Honda Mobility said a stable internet connection will be required to deliver a smooth experience. “A minimum internet speed of 15 Mbps is recommended to reduce buffering,” the company said in a statement, highlighting the technical demands of streaming console-quality games in a moving vehicle.
However, the in-car PlayStation Portal may have limitations compared with the standalone handheld. Remote Play requires a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 console running at home, and Sony did not say whether the vehicle-installed version would later support cloud streaming features that now allow the handheld to play some games independently.

The move comes as technology companies test new platforms for gaming beyond the living room. While earlier efforts, such as Tesla’s in-car Steam integration, struggled to gain traction, Sony and its rivals are seeking new distribution channels. The Afeela 1 is scheduled to launch first in California by mid-2026, with prices starting at $102,900, according to Sony Honda Mobility.
