Solar Insure Introduces Insurance-Backed Warranty to Support Long-Term Commercial Renewable Energy Assets

New SI Commercial product targets risk reduction and bankability for mid-scale solar projects

Solar Insure has launched SI Commercial, an insurance-backed warranty product aimed at strengthening the long-term reliability and financial viability of commercial solar projects, as renewable energy systems increasingly become core infrastructure for businesses and institutions.

Designed for commercial solar installations of up to 2 megawatts DC, the SI Commercial product provides extended coverage aligned with the operational lifespan of renewable energy assets. It offers up to 30 years of protection for solar panels and 20 years for inverters, including parts and labour, and includes manufacturer default protection supported by an AM Best A+ rated insurance carrier.

Solar Insure said the product is intended to address a persistent challenge in commercial renewable energy deployment: managing long-duration technology and performance risk over decades of operation. As commercial solar systems are often financed based on long-term cash flows, equipment reliability and warranty certainty play a critical role in project bankability.

To support broader adoption and technology choice within the renewable energy ecosystem, Solar Insure has expanded its Approved Vendor List for commercial systems. Newly approved manufacturers include Chint Power Systems, Hoymiles, SMA, SolarEdge, Solis, AP Systems, and Enphase. Solar Insure said the approvals maintain performance and durability standards while giving installers greater flexibility in system design.

The company positions SI Commercial as a tool to help installers and developers shift long-tail operational and manufacturer risk away from their balance sheets, while simplifying warranty administration over the life of a project. For asset owners and financiers, the insurance-backed structure is designed to reduce uncertainty and support investment decisions tied to long-lived renewable infrastructure.

The launch comes as commercial and industrial solar installations play a growing role in energy transition strategies, providing distributed renewable generation that supports decarbonisation, energy resilience and long-term cost stability for businesses.
