A new crowdfunding project is seeking to give the Apple Watch Ultra a second life by transforming the smartwatch into a handheld music and utility device, reviving design cues associated with Apple’s iPod era. The product, called RePod Ultra, places the Apple Watch Ultra into a dedicated case designed to be held in the hand rather than worn on the wrist.
The company behind the project, WPG, argues that the concept addresses a growing number of unused Apple Watch Ultra devices, while also appealing to users looking to reduce smartphone dependence. By relocating the watch into a standalone form factor, the accessory allows access to core functions such as music playback, navigation, payments and messaging without the broader distractions of a full smartphone interface.

According to the project description, the RePod Ultra is positioned as a potential digital detox tool, enabling users to leave their smartphones behind while remaining connected. The manufacturer states that “many Apple Watch Ultras lie unused in drawers,” presenting the case as a way to repurpose existing hardware rather than replace it.
The RePod Ultra is WPG’s first product launched via Kickstarter, although the company already sells other accessories through online marketplaces. Backers can pre-order the device for $79, with shipments expected to begin in April 2026, according to the campaign.

As with other crowdfunding initiatives, the project carries typical risks, including potential delays or changes to the final product. The company has not indicated whether the RePod Ultra will be produced beyond the initial crowdfunding phase.
