Apple may be preparing to introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, but a third-party accessory is seeking to offer similar functionality to current MacBook users without requiring a hardware upgrade.

The Intricuit Magic Screen is a transparent plexiglass overlay designed to magnetically attach to the display of a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Once connected via a USB-C cable, the accessory allows users to interact with macOS using touch input, including finger gestures and stylus-based controls.

Apple has historically avoided adding touchscreens to its laptops, even as the feature has become common across the wider PC market. The Magic Screen positions itself as an interim solution, enabling touch interaction on existing devices. According to the original article, the accessory allows macOS to be “operated with a finger,” with basic touch functions working without additional software.

For more advanced features, Intricuit provides a companion application. The product also includes a stylus aimed at creative professionals, supporting tasks such as digital drawing, photo editing and 3D modelling. The Magic Screen can also function as a standalone drawing tablet when detached from the laptop display.

To support stylus use, a magnetically attached rear case stabilises the screen during drawing, though the accessory must be removed before closing the laptop. The Magic Screen is planned for multiple MacBook sizes, including 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models and 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air versions.

Intricuit said the Magic Screen will be launched through a Kickstarter campaign, where it is expected to be offered at a price of $139. The company aims to begin deliveries before the end of March, though broader retail availability has not yet been announced.
