Microsoft Partners with Indian Startup Sarvam AI to Advance Voice-Based AI Applications

Microsoft announced on Thursday its collaboration with Indian startup Sarvam AI to support the advancement of voice-based generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

The partnership, revealed during CEO Satya Nadella’s visit to India, underscores the tech giant’s efforts to expand its consumer base in the country, known for its rapid economic growth.

During his three-day visit, Nadella unveiled plans to offer AI skilling opportunities to 2 million Indians by 2025. Sarvam AI, a startup focused on developing genAI models tailored for Indic languages and context, will leverage Microsoft’s cloud services, including Azure OpenAI Service, to build its solutions.

Founded by individuals who previously worked on AI models at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras-based research group AI4Bharat, Sarvam AI has secured $41 million in a series A funding round from investors such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, Peak XV Partners, and Khosla Ventures.
