BYD is preparing to release a Track Edition of its Yangwang U9 electric supercar, with official specifications filed to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealing a dramatic leap in performance.
The new variant equips each wheel with a 744.57 hp electric motor, bringing total output to 2,977 hp — 2.3 times more than the standard U9’s 1,287 hp. In comparison, Tesla’s Model S Plaid produces 1,020 hp from three motors and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds.
Track-focused upgrades include a carbon-fibre roof, fixed rear wing, and a rear diffuser with adjustable blades, all aimed at improving downforce and high-speed stability. Braking systems have been enhanced to cope with the increased power, and customers will have the option of a carbon-fibre front splitter and an electric rear wing.
The filing also confirms a top speed of 217 mph, with the car measuring 195.5 inches long, 79.9 inches wide, and 51.6 inches tall, riding on a 114.2-inch wheelbase. It will feature 20-inch wheels and is expected to use BYD’s high-speed motor technology, capable of spinning at over 30,000 rpm, previously seen in the Han L EV and Tang L EV.
“BYD is not slowing down when it comes to performance EVs,” the company stated, underscoring its ambitions in the electric supercar market.
