Garmin on Thursday introduced its latest cycling computers, the Edge 550 and Edge 850, with brighter screens, enhanced performance tracking and new training tools designed for cyclists.

The company said the 2.7-inch display on both models offers higher clarity outdoors with 600 x 420 resolution, while the premium Edge 850 also features a touchscreen. “A brighter display is intended to make them easier to read in the sun,” Garmin said.

Both models integrate Garmin Cycling Coach, which creates personalized training plans that adapt to a rider’s fitness level and route. They also provide hydration reminders, real-time weather information and a GroupRide function that lets cyclists compare metrics such as speed, cadence and heart rate with others in their group.

The Edge 850 includes an integrated speaker for use as an electronic bell, as well as NFC functionality for Garmin Pay. Battery life is rated at up to 12 hours in intensive mode or 36 hours with power-saving settings, supported by a GPS frequency of 5Hz for precise route recording.

The Edge 550 is priced at $499, while the touchscreen Edge 850 retails for $599. Both models are now available through Garmin’s online store.
