Garmin has released a new beta firmware update for selected smartwatches in its Fenix 8 family, introducing new features alongside numerous bug fixes while cautioning users about several temporary limitations.
The beta update, version 23.11, is available for the Fenix 8 AMOLED, Fenix 8 Solar, Tactix 8 AMOLED, Enduro 3 and Quatix 8 smartwatches.
Beta Release Comes With Limitations
As a beta release, the update is not enabled automatically, even for users enrolled in Garmin’s beta testing program. Instead, eligible users must manually request and install the software.
Garmin said several features are temporarily unavailable after installation. Diving functions are disabled, while ECG recording and analysis are also unavailable during the beta testing period.
The company also warned of a known issue affecting indoor climbing activities.
According to Garmin, the current beta version may cause supported watches to crash during indoor climbing workouts. The issue is expected to be addressed in a future software update.
New Features Added
Firmware version 23.11 introduces several enhancements compared with the previous version 22.38.
Users can now share dive computer settings through Garmin Share, while runners receive quick suggestions for spontaneous running workouts.
The update also expands audio volume controls and improves map navigation by allowing users to switch between north-up and route-oriented map views with a simple touchscreen tap during navigation.
Stability Improvements
In addition to the new functionality, Garmin said the update resolves numerous software bugs, including several issues that could cause unexpected device restarts or shutdowns.
Users who rely on ECG, diving features or indoor climbing activities may prefer to wait for a future stable software release before installing the beta update.
