CloverPit, a new roguelike gambling game that replaces cards with a slot machine, has launched on Steam to strong reception. The title combines elements of chance with horror aesthetics, offering players what its developer describes as “five reels, three rows and a pit that swallows you whole if luck is not on your side.”
The game’s premise departs from recent genre successes like Balatro and Luck be a Landlord. Instead of drawing cards, players confront a slot machine in a dimly lit room, where survival depends on paying off debts after each run. Failure results in the floor opening beneath the character, ending the session.
Over 150 items, talismans and upgrades can be unlocked to reduce reliance on chance, allowing players to alter machine mechanics, boost rare patterns or trigger chain reactions. Steam reviewers have highlighted the experimentation with different setups and the pursuit of high scores as central to its appeal.
The game was available in demo form earlier this year and officially released on September 26. CloverPit has accumulated more than 1,000 reviews, with 96% of them positive. A 10% launch discount reduces the price to $9 until October 10.
The title is also verified for Steam Deck, adding portability to its appeal for handheld users.
