Gearbox Software has unveiled C4SH, a new playable Vault Hunter set to debut in Borderlands 4 as part of its first paid story expansion, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. The announcement was made during the Borderlands 4 panel at the Tokyo Game Show 2025.
C4SH, a former casino dealer bot turned drifter, will feature in Story Pack 1, scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2026. The character will be available through multiple purchase options, including the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition, the Vault Hunter Pack, or the standalone story pack.
Described as a luck-driven fighter, C4SH brings a playstyle built around chance, with three action skills and customizable skill trees. His abilities are designed to deliver unpredictable outcomes, ranging from boosting allies to inflicting heavy damage on enemies. “C4SH’s risk-reward playstyle can lead to good fortunes like buffing himself and allies, dealing devastating damage, sapping the strength from foes, and more,” Gearbox said in its update.
The Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned expansion will introduce a new zone in Kairos, fresh missions, new gear, and additional cosmetics. It is the first of two story packs planned, with Gearbox also outlining a post-launch roadmap that includes both paid and free content. Free updates will add seasonal events, bosses, and other features, while smaller paid “Bounty Packs” will bring narrative missions, cosmetics, and loot.
Gearbox confirmed that further details, including gameplay footage of C4SH, will be shared in the coming months ahead of the expansion’s release.
