Arlo has unveiled a new range of security cameras, adding artificial intelligence capabilities such as fire detection, vehicle recognition and alerts for unusual activities including open garage doors. The company said the system can be trained to recognize specific situations, though it acknowledged the reliability of such features will only be proven over time.
“Arlo says the system can be trained to recognise such situations, though only extended testing will tell whether this feature is dependable,” the company noted in its announcement. Many of the advanced functions require a paid subscription.
The lineup includes two indoor and three outdoor cameras. The Essential Pan Tilt Indoor offers motorized coverage of larger spaces, while the more basic Essential Indoor, priced at $39.99, features an automated privacy shield.
For outdoor monitoring, the Essential 3 Pan Tilt Outdoor can rotate 360 degrees to track moving subjects. The Essential 3 Outdoor includes a spotlight and a siren, while the Essential 3 XL variant delivers four times the battery life of the standard version. Prices start at $59.99 for the pan-and-tilt model, $69.99 for the Essential 3, and $79.99 for the XL edition.
The expansion reflects a wider trend of security technology companies incorporating AI into consumer products, aiming to differentiate through smart features and longer-lasting hardware.
