Garmin has released a new stable software update for its flagship smartwatch, the Fenix 8 Pro, addressing several minor issues identified in earlier builds. The rollout of version 18.81 began this week and will be distributed in phases to all users, according to the company.
The update is primarily aimed at improving system stability rather than introducing new functionality. “The update is only intended to fix bugs and does not add any new features,” Garmin stated in the release notes, noting that feature expansions typically arrive through new device launches rather than software patches.
Version 18.81 resolves three key issues: an error message that appeared after exiting a navigation option, a miscalculation of authentication codes, and an occasional interface freeze when a nearby location was marked as a reference point. The fixes are designed to improve overall reliability for users engaging in navigation and location-based activities.
The release follows software version 18.68, issued just a week earlier, which also focused on system refinements, including fixes to Garmin Messenger and improvements to automatic brightness adjustments. Neither of the recent updates introduced new tools or user-facing features.
Garmin’s incremental software approach reflects its broader strategy of launching new features through its latest hardware—such as the recently released Fenix 8 Pro—while using firmware updates like version 18.81 to maintain stability and performance across its existing lineup.
