Garmin has released Beta Version 12.12 for its Instinct 3 series smartwatches, introducing several new features and bug fixes as part of its ongoing software refinement program. The update follows System Software 10.36 and comes over a month after the company’s last major rollout for the Instinct E, Instinct 3 and Instinct 3 Solar.
According to Garmin, the new beta software allows users to update sensor firmware via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for the first time, streamlining the maintenance process without requiring a wired connection. The update also adds the ability to edit custom and proximity alerts directly through Garmin Connect Mobile. “Beta Version 12.12 offers a taste of what is to come with several new features for all smartwatches,” the company stated in its release.
Specific models benefit from additional upgrades. The Instinct 3 Solar and Instinct E now feature new data fields for steps and recovery time, while AMOLED models gain support for HRM Pace and Distance via BLE. For Instinct 3 AMOLED, Garmin has also included new UTC and barometer data field options and improved animations for the Morning Report and Workout displays.
As part of routine maintenance, the update resolves numerous issues, including glitches affecting interval alerts, weather app access, and display inaccuracies in calendar and chart data. The Instinct Crossover AMOLED also receives design updates, improved user interface consistency, and a fix for a rare issue where analog hands could freeze after an activity.
Garmin noted that Beta Version 12.12 remains in testing and will roll out to stable channels in the coming weeks. Users participating in the Beta Program can access the update through Garmin Connect Mobile, with detailed notes available on the company’s official forum.
