Talkmate, a global partner of UNESCO, has launched an AI-powered platform designed to make Chinese language learning and cultural exploration more interactive and accessible. The Talkmate International Chinese Education AI Agent debuted in Beijing on October 31, combining artificial intelligence with education, culture, and tourism services.
The new platform allows users to hold real-time conversations with AI avatars representing more than 100 Chinese cultural figures, including philosophers and poets such as Confucius and Li Bai. Each avatar features a unique voice and personality, and the system currently supports six languages — English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Arabic — with expansion to 50 languages planned.
“The intelligent agent developed by Talkmate isn’t just a tool—it’s a cultural bridge,” said Co-founder Limin Yang, noting that the platform adapts dialogue based on a learner’s native language, proficiency, and personal interests. The program includes over 5,000 AI-powered lessons and provides preparation materials for HSK exams, along with modules that compare Chinese culture to familiar global contexts.
Beyond language learning, Talkmate’s system integrates cultural tourism. Users can virtually visit more than 3,000 historical sites across China — from the Forbidden City to Dunhuang and West Lake — while receiving live, AI-guided language feedback. The company said the service is available at a fraction of traditional tutoring costs and offers continuous 24-hour study access.
Early adopters have described the experience as “learning that feels less like homework and more like connecting with a friend,” reflecting Talkmate’s stated mission to use multilingual AI as a bridge between languages and cultures. The launch marks another step in China’s growing investment in educational technology, positioning Talkmate as a player in the global shift toward interactive, AI-driven learning platforms.
