Garmin is preparing to release a new stable software update for its premium smartwatch lineup, including the Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro, Enduro 3, and Tactix 8 models. The update, expected to arrive before the end of the week, will integrate over a month of beta testing and nearly 100 refinements, marking the company’s first major stable release since August.

The update, internally tracked as System Software 20.19, follows Garmin’s previous stable version 17.30, which succeeded 17.28 to address outstanding bugs. The company said it has now completed public beta testing, which began with Beta Version 20.07 about six weeks ago. “We have offered Beta Version 20.19 to all eligible Beta Program participating smartwatches,” Garmin stated, indicating that a stable rollout is imminent.

Among the enhancements, the update introduces new LTE-related functions for the Fenix 8 Pro, including power-saving prompts, emoji reactions, and an image viewer for messages received through Messenger for Wearables. Additional system-wide features include an inline skating workout mode, new health and cycling metrics, and improved touch and navigation controls. The update also fixes dozens of minor issues, ranging from interface lag to synchronization errors and connectivity bugs.

The company’s August release, System Software 17.28, delivered over 100 fixes and feature upgrades but was quickly replaced due to remaining technical issues. This upcoming version builds upon those foundations, with roughly 89 improvements over the previous stable build and about two dozen exclusive to the Fenix 8 Pro.

Garmin’s latest update continues its focus on refining the user experience for endurance athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. As the rollout nears completion, users across compatible devices can expect broader performance stability, improved interface responsiveness, and expanded support for both health tracking and communication tools.
