Garmin has begun rolling out system software version 4.05 for its Descent X50i dive computer, introducing new apps, expanded features, and performance improvements. The update follows version 3.18, which was released in July 2025 and focused on enhancing touch controls.
The company said the new software adds Weather & Tides and Notifications apps, while also enabling support for Garmin Share and a new screen-flip option that lets users adjust button placement for greater flexibility. “This release adds new apps, support for Garmin Share and the ability to flip the device’s screen,” Garmin noted in its release announcement.

Among the other changes, divers will gain access to new NDL Aware Depth Metrics for improved in-dive insight and will now receive low battery warnings during pre-dive checks. The update also allows the Descent X50i to display the battery level of connected inReach devices in the status bar and to log battery data as part of diving activities.
Garmin has refined alert management through the device settings and improved notifications for critically low tank pressure. Several bugs have also been resolved, including issues affecting travel gas settings in dive plans, compass clearing functions, and truncated dive charts.

According to a company representative on the Garmin Forum, the update has been deployed to at least half of Descent X50i users, with full rollout expected in stages. The update can be installed via the Garmin Dive app, Garmin Express on desktop, or directly from the watch through the system settings menu.
