Microsoft has released a free update for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 that introduces an unexpected crossover with Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, blending the simulator’s trademark realism with a fictional setting rooted in supernatural storytelling.
The update allows players to explore a detailed recreation of Hawkins, Indiana, flying over locations made familiar by the series. Microsoft said the crossover aims to expand the simulator’s appeal through narrative-driven content, while maintaining its core focus on authentic flight mechanics.

At the centre of the experience are five story-based rescue missions in which players pilot a Bell UH-1H Huey helicopter to assist residents amid disturbances linked to the Upside Down. The original article described the addition as “a fun and clever twist on the simulator’s usual structure,” combining realistic aviation with tense, scripted objectives.
The collaboration follows earlier themed updates, including crossovers inspired by Dune and Jurassic World, reflecting a broader strategy to introduce pop-culture settings into the long-running franchise without altering its technical foundation.
