Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will launch on PlayStation 5 on December 8, marking the first time the long-running series is available on Sony’s platform. The announcement was made during Sony’s State of Play showcase and ends months of speculation about whether the title would remain exclusive to PC and Xbox.

The PlayStation version will offer the same global scope as other platforms, including more than 40,000 airports, 60,000 helipads, live weather systems, and real-time air traffic. A mission-based career mode will cover firefighting, crop spraying, executive transport, and search and rescue, while the fleet will feature more than 120 aircraft ranging from ultralights and helicopters to commercial airliners and military transports.

Sony’s DualSense controller is being used to add a distinct experience for PlayStation players. Adaptive triggers will simulate the physical forces of takeoffs and turbulence, haptic feedback will replicate engine vibrations, and air traffic control communications will play through the controller speaker. Motion inputs are also supported for players without a dedicated flight stick.

Full virtual reality support is planned for 2026 in a free update for PlayStation VR2. The developers have confirmed the game will be fully playable in VR with motion controls, allowing cockpit interactions, though it remains uncertain how the PS5 hardware will handle performance demands in VR.

The release represents a significant expansion of the simulator’s audience, as the franchise moves beyond Microsoft’s own ecosystem to compete for attention on Sony’s console during a period of rising interest in immersive flight experiences.
