Vince Zampella, a leading figure in the video game industry and director of the Battlefield franchise, died in a traffic accident in California on Dec. 22, 2025, Electronic Arts and the Battlefield development team said. He was 55.

He co-founded Infinity Ward, where he helped create the Call of Duty franchise, before establishing Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Titanfall, Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series. In 2021, he took on responsibility for guiding the long-term creative direction of Battlefield.
