Xiaomi said it will unveil its new Poco M8 and Poco M8 Pro smartphones on Jan. 8, confirming the launch date and offering a first look at the design after earlier leaks revealed many of the key specifications of the mid-range devices.
In a teaser released ahead of the launch, Xiaomi showcased the successor to the Poco M7 and said the handset measures 0.29 inches thick. The Poco M8 series features a distinctive three-tone rear panel, a curved display and a large square camera module, marking a visual departure from earlier models.
According to previously leaked information, the Poco M8 Pro is positioned as a lower-cost alternative to the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus. It is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, paired with between 8 GB and 12 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256 GB to 512 GB.
The Poco M8 Pro is also reported to include a 6,500 mAh battery with support for up to 100-watt charging via USB-C and a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 120-hertz refresh rate. Camera specifications are expected to include a 50-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, with the telephoto lens found on the Redmi model omitted. As one report noted, the device is designed with “a curved display and a large square camera module.”
