The growth of the semiconductor market is extraordinary in 2021 and China is the largest individual semiconductor market in the world.
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said worldwide chip sales totaled 555.9 billion US dollars last year, a significant 26.2% year-on-year increase. SIA predicts the semiconductor industry will grow 8.8 percent this year and will meet production capacity to meet growing demand.
China leads the market with total sales of US$192.5 billion in 2021, marking a 27.1% year-on-year increase as quoted by Gizmochina.

In 2020, semiconductor sales were up just 6.8% from before, but just a year later in 2021, chip sales crossed 1 trillion for the first time since 2018.
Moreover, major chipmakers such as TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), Samsung, and Intel have announced billions of dollars in investments to expand chip production through new facilities.
According to IC Insights, global semiconductor sales will experience very significant growth in 2021. The reason is the world economy is bouncing back from the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020. IC Insights also estimates that global semiconductor sales in 2022 will continue to grow, but with a lower level. This was conveyed by IC Insights some time ago through a release that was published.

Specifically, IC Insights predicts that total semiconductor sales in 2022 will grow by 11% compared to 2021. This value is lower than last year’s 25% which reached 25% compared to the previous year. However, the total value of semiconductor sales in 2022 is estimated to be US$680.6 billion and is the highest global semiconductor sales value of all time. The largest portion of the total semiconductor sales value in question is still IC.
Interestingly, based on IC Insights’ predictions, the magnitude of the growth of the O-S-D segment (optoelectronic, sensor/actuator, and discrete) is similar to the size of the growth of the IC segment. The two segments concerned both grew by around 11% in 2022 compared to 2021.

The amount of growth for each segment does not have to be the same. In 2019, for example, the O-S-D segment grew from before, while the IC segment decreased from before. The sales value for each segment in 2022 is estimated to reach US$ 565.1 billion for the IC segment and US$ 115.5 billion for the O-S-D segment.
IC Insights added that global semiconductor shipments are forecast to grow 10%, both for the IC segment and for the OSD segment, this year compared to 2021. It is estimated that there will be 432 billion ICs shipped and 889.3 billion OSD devices shipped in 2020. 2022.
