X Launches Hosted MCP Server to Simplify AI Integration

New hosted Model Context Protocol server allows AI assistants to securely access X data through the platform's API while maintaining existing safeguards against automated posting.

X has introduced a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables artificial intelligence assistants and developer tools to connect more easily with the platform through the X API.

The new service allows MCP-compatible applications, including AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor and Grok Build, to access X using a user’s own account permissions without requiring developers to build and host their own MCP infrastructure.

    Simplifying AI Integration

Model Context Protocol is an open standard that provides a common framework for AI models to connect with external applications and services.

Previously, developers seeking to integrate AI assistants with X were required to deploy their own MCP server, configure API connections and manage user authentication.

By hosting the MCP server directly, X removes much of that infrastructure work, allowing developers to focus on building AI-powered applications.

    Access to Real-Time Information

The hosted MCP does not introduce new API capabilities. Developers can already search posts, retrieve user information, analyze conversations and monitor trends through the X API.

Instead, the new service streamlines access to those existing features, positioning X as a source of real-time information for AI applications.

The launch follows a broader industry trend, with companies including GitHub, Slack, Notion, Stripe and Salesforce also introducing official MCP servers or compatible endpoints.

    Safeguards Against Automated Posting

X said the hosted MCP cannot be used to publish content on the platform.

According to the company, the service is not compatible with the X Write API endpoints, preventing AI assistants from posting autonomously or generating automated content through the hosted MCP.

The platform also noted that existing API policies remain in place, allowing X to restrict access if it detects spam or other forms of misuse.

Earlier this year, X updated its API to address AI-generated spam, particularly automated replies, and revised its pricing model by increasing fees for publishing posts and links in an effort to discourage abusive automated activity.
