Adobe has launched a reimagined version of its Premiere video editing software for mobile devices, beginning with Apple’s iPhone and iPad. The move is aimed at tapping into the growing market of social media creators, while an Android version is still in development.
The app, scheduled for release on Sept. 30, introduces a touch-optimized interface designed to simplify editing on smaller screens. Users can combine images, text, sound, and video across multiple tracks in resolutions up to 4K HDR. “Adobe has reimagined its Premiere video editing app to run on phones and tablets, with a touch-optimized user interface designed for ease of use by social media creators,” the company said.
Artificial intelligence is built into the app, enabling features such as audio enhancement and sound generation from text prompts. Creators also gain access to Adobe Stock assets, including background music and effects, which can be integrated into projects without watermarks.
The mobile version connects with Adobe’s professional desktop ecosystem, allowing projects started on a phone or tablet to be exported directly to platforms like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, or continued in Premiere Pro on Mac and PC.
First introduced in 2003, Premiere has long been a staple for students and independent filmmakers. With the mobile release, Adobe is positioning itself against rivals such as Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve, a free editing suite already available on iPads, as it seeks to maintain relevance in a competitive market.
