Anbernic, a company best known for its retro gaming handhelds, has announced a new high-end wireless controller as it seeks to compete more directly with established accessory brands such as 8BitDo and GameSir. The product marks Anbernic’s first major hardware launch of 2026 after a relatively quiet start to the year.
The new controller, called the RG G01, departs from the budget positioning of the company’s previous gamepads. In a brief teaser, Anbernic described the device as a “tri-mode controller,” supporting wired, 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth connections, while offering a polling rate of up to 1,000 Hz in both wired and 2.4 GHz modes.

According to the company, the controller supports a wide range of platforms, including Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, Steam, Switch consoles and Xbox-style layouts. It also includes features commonly found on premium controllers, such as programmable rear buttons, dual-mode triggers and a six-axis gyroscope for motion input.
What sets the RG G01 apart, however, is the inclusion of a small IPS display and integrated heart rate sensors positioned on both grips. Anbernic said the screen is designed to show key metrics during use, though the company has not detailed how heart rate data will be used in games or companion software.
Anbernic has not yet disclosed pricing or confirmed a release date. In its announcement, the company noted that it was “returning to the wireless controller market” following the RG P01 released in late 2024, signalling a renewed focus on gaming accessories alongside its handheld lineup.
