AI-powered driver assistance systems are increasingly influencing how vehicle safety is measured, according to Nvidia, after the Mercedes-Benz CLA was named Euro NCAP’s Best Performer of 2025, underscoring a shift toward technologies designed to help prevent accidents.
Euro NCAP, Europe’s independent vehicle safety authority supported by governments and consumer groups, awarded the CLA the highest overall safety score of the year. The result reflects the combination of conventional passive safety features with advanced driver assistance software built on Nvidia’s DRIVE AV platform.

The organisation evaluates vehicles across four categories that reflect real-world safety performance, with strong emphasis on systems aimed at protecting vulnerable road users and assisting drivers in avoiding collisions. Only models achieving five-star ratings using standard equipment qualify for Best in Class recognition, and a record 49 vehicles were assessed in 2025.
Nvidia said the CLA is built on its DRIVE AV dual-stack architecture, which combines an AI-driven end-to-end driving system with a parallel classical safety stack to provide redundancy across sensing, planning and execution. The vehicle also incorporates the DRIVE Hyperion architecture, designed to add sensor diversity and hardware redundancy.

The company said the recognition highlights a broader change in vehicle safety standards, as assessment bodies increasingly reward cars that pair strong crash protection with AI-enabled systems intended to reduce the risk of accidents before they occur.
