Garmin has released a new stable software update for its Approach S44 and Approach S50 golf smartwatches, introducing a set of bug fixes aimed at improving course data accuracy, rangefinder integration and music playback.
System software version 8.04 arrives roughly three months after the previous stable release, version 7.16, which focused on an activity data handling issue. The latest update targets four additional problems reported by users of the two golf-focused wearables.

Among the fixes, Garmin has addressed an issue affecting the PlaysLike feature on the Approach S50, where a toggle on the hazards and layups screen did not function properly. Another fix resolves a problem seen on both models involving incorrect PlaysLike distance values when paired with a compatible rangefinder.
The update also corrects a bug that could cause inaccurate hole and par information to be displayed for certain courses. In addition, Garmin has fixed an issue that prevented users from adjusting the volume within the smartwatch’s built-in music app. As noted in the original announcement, the update “tackles a range of issues with the wearables, one of which is linked to the music app.”
