Apple said on Tuesday that iOS 26, the latest version of its mobile operating system, will be available to download starting Sept. 15, bringing a new design language and updated artificial intelligence features to supported iPhones.
The update introduces a major visual overhaul called Liquid Glass, which changes the overall look and feel of iPhone software. Reactions from beta testers have been mixed, with some praising the design and others criticizing it. “iOS 26 will bring a massive redesign to the aesthetics of iPhones with what Apple calls ‘Liquid Glass,’” the company said.
Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI suite, will also see new tools including automated call screening and on-device models designed to improve privacy and speed. The feature was first introduced in earlier releases but receives wider integration under iOS 26.
The operating system will be available on a wide range of devices, including the iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 models, as well as earlier devices back to the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE released in 2020.
Apple unveiled the release date alongside its latest hardware announcements at its September event, with the software expected to roll out globally on Monday.
