Atlus has confirmed that Persona 3 Reload will not be coming to the original Nintendo Switch, shifting development entirely to the upcoming Switch 2. The studio said the decision followed internal assessments showing that performance and design constraints made it impractical to support both platforms simultaneously.
According to details shared in an interview with 4Gamer, Atlus initially planned to develop versions for both the current and next-generation Switch consoles. However, the team found that maintaining performance consistency and meeting the planned release window were not feasible under a dual-platform approach.
The decision came after Nintendo’s July 2025 announcement of the Switch 2, which introduced 4K docked output, improved battery life, and backward compatibility. Atlus subsequently refocused its efforts to align Persona 3 Reload with the new system’s technical capabilities and release timing across other platforms.
Testing reportedly revealed that the original Switch could not handle the game’s visual and performance requirements without significant redesigns to the user interface and graphics. Addressing these limitations would have delayed the release by about a year, prompting Atlus to prioritize the newer console.
With this shift, Persona 3 Reload is expected to launch for the Switch 2 around the same time as its other platform versions, reflecting Atlus’s goal of delivering a unified and optimized experience across systems.
