International Motors has started fleet trials of its second-generation autonomous trucks in partnership with PlusAI, underscoring a joint effort to bring factory-installed self-driving technology to the freight industry. The pilot will operate along the Interstate-35 corridor between Laredo and Dallas and be coordinated from International’s autonomous hub in San Antonio.
The program combines International’s LT Series tractors, powered by the S13 Integrated Powertrain, with PlusAI’s SuperDrive autonomous software. The system uses end-to-end AI models trained on real-world data and integrates radar, lidar and cameras for 360-degree perception. Both companies view the trials as a way to validate hub-to-hub freight operations under real-world conditions.
International said the collaboration with PlusAI is aimed at developing solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also commercially viable. By pooling hardware and software expertise, the companies are seeking to build scalable autonomous platforms that can be adapted to multiple routes and geographies.
The fleet trials will also involve customer operators, providing feedback that will guide future refinements. The initiative is part of broader efforts by International and PlusAI to align innovation with industry demand for safer, more efficient and cost-effective transport.
The companies said their long-term goal is to establish a roadmap for deploying autonomous technology across major freight corridors, setting the stage for wider adoption of connected and automated logistics.
