The remastered edition of Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return will be released on December 15, 2025, publisher announcements show, bringing the 1999 PlayStation 1 platformer to new hardware including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. The new version will include modern enhancements as well as the option to play with visuals styled after the original release.
The 3D platform game, developed by Whoopee Camp more than two decades ago, gained a following for its mechanics despite being overshadowed at launch by larger titles of the era. In the upcoming release, the story remains unchanged as players follow Tomba in search of his friend Tabby while pursuing the Evil Pigs that have cursed the continent. According to the announcement, “it will be possible to enjoy graphics from the PS1 era,” offering a nostalgic experience for longtime fans.

The remaster retains the original premise in which the pink-haired protagonist must complete 137 levels with support from his companion Zippo. A newly released trailer showcases sequences from the story and highlights the updated visual mode as well as the throwback PS1-style presentation.
Retro-focused re-releases have continued to attract player interest across platforms, and developers have taken note of the ongoing demand. Industry analysts say remasters such as Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return Special Edition illustrate how publishers are expanding catalog titles to modern systems while preserving their historical appeal.
The 2025 launch will mark the first time the sequel arrives on platforms beyond Sony’s ecosystem, positioning it for a broader audience than its original release. Further details on physical editions, pricing and pre-order availability are expected ahead of its December rollout.
