Chinese robotics company Dobot has announced the launch of its latest consumer robot, the Rover X1, a quadruped device aimed at combining affordability with multifunctional performance. Priced at around $1,050, the Rover X1 offers many of the capabilities found in high-end robotic companions such as Boston Dynamics’ Spot, but at a significantly lower cost.

The Rover X1 is equipped with a dual-vision tracking system that enables it to map and navigate real-world environments autonomously. According to Dobot, the robot can be used as a mobile security camera for home monitoring, or as a personal assistant capable of carrying small items and following its owner with an action camera mounted on a gimbal. “The Rover X1 can patrol homes, act as a cameraman, or carry objects,” the company said in its launch announcement.

Designed for flexibility, the robot supports voice control, allowing it to respond to commands or interact playfully like an artificial pet. Its modular design includes removable feet that can be replaced with wheels to increase mobility and speed. The Rover X1 also supports third-party programming interfaces, giving developers room to create custom functions and applications.

Beyond its practical uses, Dobot is positioning the Rover X1 as a companion robot suited for creative, domestic, and educational environments. The company said the device’s adaptability makes it suitable for families, creators, and hobbyists seeking a hands-on introduction to robotics.

The Rover X1 will be available in China for 7,499 yuan (approximately $1,050). Dobot has not yet confirmed international release plans or whether certain features will require a subscription.
