The Elder Scrolls 6 will not make an appearance at The Game Awards on December 11, according to industry reporting that has ruled out the highly anticipated Bethesda title despite growing fan speculation. Excitement had surged after host Geoff Keighley shared an image of an ornate statue on social media, prompting assumptions that it might signal a major announcement.

Initial guesses centred on two possibilities: a Diablo 4 expansion or new footage from The Elder Scrolls 6. However, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier publicly clarified that neither title is planned for the event, shutting down expectations that Bethesda’s next RPG would headline the show. The clarification aligns with earlier statements from key figures at Microsoft and Bethesda that suggested the game remained years from release.

The Elder Scrolls 6 has been in development for several years but has only seen incremental public updates since its 2018 announcement. Bethesda director Todd Howard has confirmed internally playable progress but has also reiterated that the launch is not imminent. Analysts note that the studio’s priority shift toward Starfield significantly slowed public-facing development on the Elder Scrolls franchise.

Industry observers expect the upcoming game to feature a large-scale open world comparable to, or larger than, Skyrim. This ambition is believed to be a driving factor behind the extended development timeline. Fans continue to watch major industry events closely in the hope of sudden announcements, particularly after Bethesda released Oblivion Remastered without lengthy pre-launch buildup.

Speculation over Keighley’s mysterious statue remains unresolved, and other possible reveals—including a God of War project—have also been dismissed by studio insiders. With the year’s largest gaming showcase approaching, attention now turns to what title, if any, the teaser ultimately represents.
