Facebook has introduced two new tools for its dating service, including an artificial intelligence assistant and an automatic matching option called “Meet Cute,” in a move aimed at helping young adults connect more easily.
The social media platform said hundreds of thousands of people aged 18 to 29 in the United States and Canada create Facebook Dating profiles each month, with matches among that group rising 10% over the past year. “We want to help you meet more people you’re interested in without having to resort to endless swiping or paying to unlock product features,” the company said in a statement.
The new dating assistant functions as a chat-based helper within Facebook Dating. It offers refined search tools and custom match suggestions based on user interests and prompts, such as “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech.” It can also provide profile tips and dating ideas. The assistant will begin rolling out gradually across the U.S. and Canada.
Meet Cute, the second feature, automatically pairs users with a surprise match based on Facebook’s algorithm. Matches are released weekly, with users able to either start a conversation or opt out. Meta said it is exploring other matching frequencies as the service expands.
Both features are designed to address what the company describes as “swipe fatigue” in online dating and to make the experience faster, easier and free to use.
