Square Enix has indicated that future entries in its Final Fantasy 7 Remake series could arrive on multiple platforms at launch, marking a shift away from PlayStation exclusivity.
During the September 12 Nintendo Direct, the publisher confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be released on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console on January 22, 2026. An Xbox version is also due the same day, with Play Anywhere support.
In a subsequent social media post, Square Enix suggested that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the untitled Part 3 will follow a broader release strategy, covering Switch 2, Xbox and PC. “The Final Fantasy games will ship for the Switch 2, Xbox, and PC, raising the possibility of simultaneous release,” the company noted.
The earlier entries in the trilogy, Remake and Rebirth, were launched as timed PlayStation exclusives before later arriving on PC and Steam. Both Sony and Square Enix have since stated their intention to expand distribution across platforms.

Industry analysts said timing will depend on development schedules. “One argument against a simultaneous multi-platform release may be long development cycles,” the report noted, adding that the shift in strategy is relatively recent.
No release date has been announced for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on non-PlayStation systems, though industry commentators have speculated that 2026 is a likely window.
