Taiwan’s Foxconn is pressing ahead with its electric vehicle ambitions in North America, aiming to launch its first EV, the Model C crossover, before the end of 2025.

The contract manufacturer best known for assembling Apple iPhones said the vehicle is currently undergoing certification in the United States. Despite new import restrictions on foreign-made EVs and the rollback of federal incentives, Foxconn reiterated its intention to eventually build cars locally.

“The Model C plan remains unchanged,” spokesman James Wu said. “For our U.S. customers’ initial orders, production will start in Taiwan, but our goal of manufacturing the Model C in the U.S. has not changed.”

In parallel, Foxconn signed a partnership with Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. to co-develop battery-powered buses. The collaboration will draw on Foxconn’s Model T full-size bus and Model U mid-size platform, designed through its Foxtron joint venture with Yulon Motor. The Model T is already operating in municipal fleets in Taiwan.

Foxconn said production of the Model C will begin at its Taiwanese plant before shifting to the U.S. once a suitable site is secured. The company is positioning its EV business as a core growth area beyond electronics manufacturing.
