Ghost of Yotei Tops UK Boxed Charts, but Physical Sales Lag Behind Tsushima

Sony’s newest first-party release, Ghost of Yotei, has taken the top spot in UK boxed game sales, surpassing competitors including EA FC 26 and Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 remaster. The strong debut underscores sustained demand for PlayStation’s single-player titles, even as digital gaming continues to dominate the market.

According to recent retail data, the game’s physical sales are about 40% lower than those of Ghost of Tsushima at launch. The decline aligns with a broader market shift, as Sony’s financial reporting shows digital purchases now account for roughly three-quarters of total PlayStation game sales — nearly double the share recorded five years ago.

The UK boxed launch for Ghost of Yotei is really, really good. It is No.1, which means it beat the second week of EA Sports FC 26 (!) and sold almost 3x what Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 on Switch did.

Despite a pre-launch controversy involving the dismissal of a Sucker Punch developer over inappropriate comments, Ghost of Yotei has maintained strong performance both commercially and critically. Reviewers have highlighted its improved combat system, visual fidelity, and expanded open-world mechanics as key contributors to its reception.

Digital rankings indicate further potential growth. The title currently leads new PS5 digital releases in the United States and holds second place in the UK, just behind EA FC 26. Analysts suggest that digital store performance will determine whether the game can sustain its momentum into the year’s final quarter.

The early success of Ghost of Yotei reinforces Sony’s continued strength in narrative-driven, single-player games at a time when the company is balancing these projects with its push into live-service multiplayer titles.
