Google One, the cloud storage service offered by Google, has achieved a significant milestone by amassing over 100 million subscribers, announced Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google’s parent company Alphabet. Pichai emphasized the pivotal role of the newly introduced AI Premium Plan in driving future growth for the platform.
Google One builds upon the foundation of 15 GB of free storage available to all users for services such as Gmail and Google Photos. The service offers various subscription tiers, starting with the “Basic” plan providing 100 GB of storage for $1.99 per month or $19.99 annually, which can be shared among up to five users. Additional perks include enhanced Google Photos editing features, VPN services by Google One, and dark web monitoring.
Moving up, the “Standard” plan offers 200 GB of storage at $2.99 per month or $29.99 annually, accompanied by a 3% cashback on Google Store purchases. The “Premium” tier, priced at $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually for 2 TB of storage, introduces Google Workspace premium features in Meet and Calendar, along with a 10% cashback from the Google Store. Subsequent tiers offer storage options ranging from 5 TB to 30 TB, with corresponding monthly fees.
The newly introduced AI Premium tier, available for $19.99 per month, grants access to Gemini Advanced and Gemini in Google Workspace. These features encompass functionalities such as “Help me write” in Gmail, organizing tools in Slides, and visualization capabilities in Sheets. Notably, subscribers on 5+ TB tiers currently enjoy limited-time access to AI Premium features at no additional cost until July 31, 2024.
Furthermore, Google Fi Unlimited subscribers will soon have the opportunity to upgrade to the AI Premium plan, an option not initially available upon the plan’s launch. Similarly, subscribers acquiring Google One through third-party integrated billing providers can expect to receive access to the AI Premium plan in the near future.
Pichai expressed optimism about the future growth prospects of Google One, particularly with the introduction of AI features. Features such as Gemini in Gmail, Docs, and Workspace are slated for imminent release, with the Duet AI feature undergoing a rebranding process. Google anticipates that the integration of AI capabilities will serve as a catalyst for future growth.
