Arrowhead pledges to focus on stability and performance after months of recurring issues

Arrowhead Game Studios has pledged to shift its development priorities for Helldivers 2, following months of community frustration over persistent bugs and performance issues. In a recent Q&A session, Game Director Mikael Eriksson admitted the team placed too much emphasis on producing new content rather than addressing existing technical problems.

“I think we have, and this is in large part on me, focused too much on making new things and just not enough on fixing the issues that we have,” Eriksson said during the session. Since its launch, Helldivers 2 has faced a range of issues including crashes, stuttering, and gameplay bugs, many of which have resurfaced after major updates such as the recent Into the Unjust expansion.

Eriksson explained that the development team’s enthusiasm for keeping the game fresh had unintended consequences. “While that’s super cool,” he said, “it takes away focus from fixing the issues we already have.” The director acknowledged that the team developed a habit of “getting away with things” that ultimately compromised the game’s stability. “Since we do keep getting away with it, we sort of just get used to it, and we just keep developing the game like we normally do,” he added.

Looking back, Eriksson admitted there were signs of trouble that went unaddressed despite warnings from both the player community and internal staff. “Now we realize there are issues in many parts of the game at once, and we are paying the price for it,” he said. Arrowhead, he added, plans to “develop the game in a more responsible way” by tightening internal processes and prioritizing stability before releasing additional content.

While players can still expect new updates in the coming months, Arrowhead’s CEO has cautioned that meaningful performance improvements will take time. The studio expects it will require “many more months” of focused work before players see substantial progress in overall game stability and performance.
