Honda will discontinue sales of the all-electric Prologue in the United States after the 2026 model year, marking the end of its battery-electric SUV developed through a partnership with General Motors.
The automaker confirmed the decision after reports that Honda dealers had been informed the Prologue would be withdrawn from the market later this year.
Prologue reaches end of production
A Honda spokesperson said the company will continue supporting existing owners after production ends.
“Honda will conclude sales of Prologue later this year following completion of the 2026 model year. Prologue customers will continue to receive full support through our dealer network, including service, parts, and warranty coverage.”
The Prologue entered the US market in 2024 and was built by General Motors at its Ramos Arizpe manufacturing facility in Mexico using GM’s Ultium electric vehicle platform and battery technology.
The same collaboration also produced the Acura ZDX, which Honda ended production of in September 2025.
Earlier this year, Honda also canceled plans to launch the all-electric Acura RSX.
Partnership with GM winds down
Honda and General Motors originally partnered to accelerate electric vehicle development using GM’s Ultium architecture.
However, the companies abandoned plans to jointly develop lower-cost electric vehicles several years ago, while GM has since shifted toward its next-generation battery and propulsion technologies.
The two manufacturers also ended their joint hydrogen fuel-cell venture in Michigan earlier this year, with Honda now pursuing fuel-cell development independently.
Manufacturing plans evolve
The Prologue was assembled alongside the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq at GM’s Ramos Arizpe plant.
General Motors plans to expand production at the facility with additional vehicle programs for Latin American markets beginning next year.
Meanwhile, GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee, plant, where the Acura ZDX was produced, continues manufacturing Cadillac Lyriq and Vistiq electric SUVs while preparing to build future internal combustion-powered models.
Sales remained relatively strong
Despite operating in a challenging US electric vehicle market, the Honda Prologue recorded stronger sales than several competing models.
Honda sold approximately 82,448 Prologue vehicles after the model launched in 2024.
During the first half of 2026, US sales totaled about 8,400 units, although volumes declined compared with the same period a year earlier.
The Acura ZDX generated lower sales than the Prologue over the same period.
Honda has not announced a direct replacement for the Prologue, as the company continues developing its own next-generation electric vehicle platforms independent of General Motors.
