Shanghai-based start-up Hypershell has launched its X Ultra exoskeleton, designed to assist outdoor activities such as hiking, running and cycling. The device is equipped with a 1000-watt motor, up from 800 watts in earlier versions, and offers a walking range of 30 km per charge, nearly double its predecessor.

Built with carbon fibre and titanium alloy, the 1.8 kg X Ultra is weather resistant with IP54 protection and can operate in temperatures from -20°C to 60°C. Hypershell said the device reduces hip flexor load by 63% and oxygen consumption in cycling by 39%. “The X Ultra uses AI to adapt to your gait,” the company said, noting it now supports 12 activity modes including new “Dune” and “Snow” options.

The model can be controlled through an Apple Watch, adding new connectivity features to its functionality. Two swappable batteries are included, each weighing 400 grams, to extend range on longer excursions.

Hypershell said the X Ultra carries SGS certification, though records show the certification covers only specifications such as dimensions, weight and voltage. The company has published detailed testing conditions for performance figures on its website.

The X Ultra will go on sale from September 15 at $1,999, with early buyers receiving a $100 discount and a six-month extended warranty. Lower-priced exoskeletons, including the Hypershell X Go and X Pro, remain available online.
