An independent narrative puzzle game titled 12, Memory Lane has been released as a free-to-play title on Valve’s Steam platform, offering players a first-person mystery set inside a constantly changing mansion.
The game places players in the role of an investigator exploring the home of Henry Villemaine, where they must uncover the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of his family. According to the game’s description, the objective is to “discover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of Henry Villemaine’s family” by solving environmental puzzles and piecing together fragmented clues.
Players rely primarily on Henry’s diary, described as the main source of information, which documents the family’s daily life through scattered pages found throughout the mansion. The game also features reconstructible memories that allow players to rebuild rooms by identifying the correct placement of furniture and objects.
A defining mechanic of 12, Memory Lane is its unstable environment. As noted in the game overview, “the faces in the photos change, and the furniture moves when you’re not looking at it,” increasing the challenge as players progress. To counter this, players can label certain objects with notes to prevent them from shifting during exploration.
The title has been well received by users on Steam, where it currently holds a 92% positive review rating. While players have praised the game’s atmosphere, story and visual presentation, some reviews have pointed to control issues and technical bugs as areas needing improvement.
