ravel search platform Kayak has launched a new “AI Mode” that allows users to plan trips and compare bookings using an AI-powered chatbot built directly into its website. The feature, available on both desktop and mobile web, uses ChatGPT integration to deliver contextual travel results and recommendations.
“AI Mode lets travelers ask questions like where they can fly for under a certain price, compare hotel amenities, or find nonstop flights,” Kayak said in a statement. “It can also handle open-ended prompts, such as ‘I want to party for New Year’s Eve — where should I go?’ to help users discover destinations without set plans.”
The rollout follows the company’s earlier experiment with Kayak.ai, a separate test site launched in April to explore artificial intelligence features. The company said AI Mode brings the same capabilities directly to its main platform, combining Kayak’s travel data and tools with OpenAI’s large language model to assist with trip research, bookings, and price comparisons.
Initially available in English for U.S. users, the feature will expand to additional countries and languages later this month. Kayak said it also plans to introduce voice-based search support soon, further enhancing accessibility across platforms.
The company added that AI Mode aims to make the early stages of trip planning less time-consuming and more intuitive. The launch comes as travel and tech companies, including Expedia and Booking.com, continue testing AI-powered assistants to streamline online booking and improve customer engagement.
