Kojima Productions has marked its 10th anniversary by unveiling A New Dawn, an augmented reality game created in partnership with Niantic. The project is designed to merge digital storytelling with physical exploration, highlighting how AR can transform real-world locations into interactive environments.

The debut trailer shows players moving through deserts, beaches and urban areas while engaging with virtual elements layered over the landscape. The footage also hints at the use of AR glasses, suggesting gameplay that may extend beyond smartphones and into wearable devices.

Built on Niantic’s geospatial systems, the game is expected to emphasize location-based mechanics similar to those in Pokémon GO. By tying digital narratives to real-world surroundings, the project aims to create an immersive experience where exploration and interaction are grounded in everyday environments.

Multiplayer features also appear to be part of the concept, with indications that social interaction will play a role in gameplay. Analysts suggest the title could demonstrate how augmented reality can evolve beyond casual gaming into deeper, narrative-driven experiences connected directly to the physical world.

Concrete details on gameplay and release timing have yet to be disclosed, but A New Dawn underscores a growing push to make AR a core part of real-world entertainment.
